Advanced technologies to protect the terminal phase of pregnancy

In about 10% of term pregnancies, the rupture of the fetal membranes occurs before the onset of labor. This leakage may lead to further complications for the fetus, possibly hampering growth and development or causing the spread of bacterial infections from the vagina to the uterus and consequently to the fetus itself. Therefore the risk of premature rupture should be diagnosed as early as possible so that the patient can be treated adequately. One of the diagnostic tools presented in this symposium was the early detection of amniotic fluid leakage, thanks to the use of innovative technologies. Two other tools also play equally important roles in protecting the terminal phase of pregnancy.
