ESH 2023: hypertension, underestimated emergency
Hypertension is a silent killer, still largely underdiagnosed, affecting nearly 1.3 billion people worldwide. The ESH 2023 scientific event provided the opportunity to remind specialists and decision-makers of health systems of the qualitative and quantitative terms of this mega-pandemic, reviewing the diagnostic-therapeutic and behavioral elements already available to operators and patients , which if properly used would drastically reduce the extent of the phenomenon.
Interviews from the Euro PCR 2023
The 2023 edition of the Euro PCR scientific event - over 11,000 participating specialists - coincided with the 30th anniversary of the event which was the main driver of the rapid worldwide diffusion of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) for STEMI heart attack treatment. The conference provided innumerable ideas, some of which are presented here in the form of video interviews.

ESHRE - 38th Annual meeting
ESHRE’s 38th Annual Meeting took place from 3 to 6 July 2022 in Milan, Italy. RIPENSA Registry: studying perinatal asphyxia and preventing it
Perinatal asphyxia is a condition affecting full-term newborns. Much of it is unpredictable because it is not preceded by any event that signals a risk. Even today, every thousand newborns, two-three are born with asphyxia and a good percentage of these carry the effects of this dramatic moment for life. Eubrain's initiative, in collaboration with the Gaslini Institute, aims to create a national registry and start a study that helps to better understand the disease and contributes to reducing the number of asphyxiated children.

According to a WHO estimate, depression affects 5% of the adult population globally, a phenomenon made even more alarming by the Covid pandemic. In Italy it affects 3.5 million people, half of whom do not receive a correct diagnosis, while only a third of those affected receive adequate treatment. A peptide to defend the mitochondrion from toxic proteins
25 yeras of studies on the mitochondria have allowed a group of biomolecular researchers from the University of Catania to identify and test a peptide capable of restoring mitochondrial function, counteracting the action of toxic proteins which - particularly in neurodegenerative diseases – limit the role of the VDAC protein. A spin-off of the Sicilian university has patented the discovery and is conducting studies on animal models. In the meantime, the search for an industrial partner has begun.

A few months after the conclusion of the Selene HF study, the 18th AIAC Congress offered the opportunity for a comparison of clinical experiences regarding the use of the HeartInsight score in the remote management of heart failure.
