The 16th World Congress on Menopause held in Vancouver was a 4-day event on Health Care, Women's Health, Metabolism, Hormones, Menopause and Climacteric issues. The aim of the International Menopause Society is to impart knowledge to doctors and other healthcare professionals so that women can live fully and healthfully during midlife and as they age. This is very important because women now have more post menopause years than fertile ones.

The vaginal ring is a highly effective and well-tolerated method which is currently underutilized. The following is an overview of the role of the vagina in the application of drugs, as well as the adherence and effectiveness of contraception. We will look at the latest developments available and those which have not yet been marketed, in addition to the future developments of vaginal applications. Reviewing the forty-year development of intra-vaginal contraception, we will consider the advantages: avoiding first pass effect, the possibility of using lower dosages and thus possibly reducing the side effects.
