The evolution of ablation techniques
Interview with Professor Francesco Solimene
Linear pulsed electric field ablation represents a technological advance over the technique previously considered the gold standard for the treatment of supraventricular arrhythmias, namely radiofrequency ablation. It also offers a higher safety profile for the patient. Electroporation uses very high-voltage pulses of pulsed electric fields. This causes micro-ruptures in the cell membrane that interrupt the arrhythmia, without damaging nearby organs.
