La terapia, indicata per casi altamente selezionati, può dare miglioramenti notevoli. Risultati importanti riguardano soprattutto i pazienti più giovani, in cui le forme maligne evolvono rapidamente e in cui, spesso, è possibile ottenere non solo un rallentamento della patologia, ma anche un recupero delle disabilità già in atto.
