TAVI is here to stay and should be applied to a wider audience Prof. Francesco Romeo congresso: The recent European Society of Cardiology (ESC) congress, held in Rome, specified the role of TAVI (percutaneous aortic valve replacement) in the treatment of degenerative aortic stenosis. Currently almost all percutaneous interventions are performed on inoperable patients by cardiac surgeons. According to Prof. Romeo, the enormous know-how accumulated over the years by interventional cardiologists allows them to envisage extending TAVI to categories of patients with minor contraindications to surgery. |
