At a time when focus in more on new approaches and technologies such as robotic intervention in prostate cancer, a life saver operation, which is not yet "out of business", is open radical prostatectomy. This is by far the best option in patients with locally advanced prostate cancer. For low risk and intermediate patients robotic surgery may be best as the concern is not much the "length" of life but the "quality" of life.

The recent EAU congress in Copenhagen paid close attention to the PRECISE trial, which compared Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with or without targeted biopsy, to the transrectal ultrasonography-guided biopsy standard.
